Didier Deschamps has now entered Real Madridâs manager shortlist, according to French outlet RMC Sport.
Deschamps has already confirmed he will leave his national team role after the 2026 World Cup. That timeline makes him an attractive long-term option for the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid reportedly value several aspects of his profile. He is seen as a strong leader with a proven track record at the highest level.
His ability to manage elite players is another key factor. Deschamps also speaks Spanish and maintains good relationships with figures such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Kylian Mbappe. Those connections could prove important in a dressing room filled with high-profile talent.
For now, Alvaro Arbeloa remains in charge following Alonsoâs departure. He is well regarded by president Florentino Perez.
However, his long-term future appears uncertain. Without delivering a major trophy, it is unlikely he will retain the role beyond the current season.
Deschamps has not managed at club level for 14 years. His last role came at Olympique de Marseille, where he won six trophies in just three seasons.
That spell included a Ligue 1 title, highlighting his domestic credentials. Since then, his focus has been entirely on international football.
With France, he has built one of the most successful eras in their history. He won the 2018 World Cup and later added the Nations League to his honours.
He also guided France to the 2022 World Cup final and reached the quarter-finals in 2014. That consistency at major tournaments underlines his pedigree.
