Chief among them is 2027 four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder hailing from Chicago. Burrell — who we discussed in yesterday’s Recruiting Roundup after he detailed a “great visit” to Ann Arbor for the spring game — has been to campus on several occasions. This isn’t a huge surprise, considering he has been a top target for the Wolverines for a very long time at this point and that his older sister is on the U-M women’s soccer team. Things have always looked pretty good for the Wolverines in this recruitment, and things appear to be trending up heading into official visit season. At least that’s how Rivals’ Greg Smith views things — he posted an article earlier this week where he “called his shot” on a handful of recruits in the 2027 class, and he current expects Burrell to commit to the Wolverines.

Here is what Smith had to say:

*Burrell’s recruitment has been neck and neck between Michigan and Notre Dame for months now. Even with the coaching change in Ann Arbor the Wolverines have kept a strong position in this race. Notre Dame sources are as optimistic about landing Burrell at this time and the Illinois native was back at Michigan over the weekend. Arizona State is still looming too, but right now, I’m giving Michigan the edge to land his commitment.* Burrell released a Top 4 list earlier this month that included Michigan, Notre Dame, Missouri and Arizona State. He’s got official visits scheduled to three of those four places, including to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 19. That should be his final official visit before he enters decision mode. Smith brings up a great point — Michigan didn’t go anywhere in his recruitment following the embarrassing firing of head coach Sherrone Moore. Thankfully, Kyle Whittingham ended up re-hiring Ron Bellamy for a role in the recruiting department, so that familiarity may have helped the Wolverines stay in the running for Burrell. However, even if Whittingham didn’t re-hire Bellamy, I would have still placed Michigan at the top spot for him. It seems like Burrell’s interest in the program has only gotten stronger over the last few months, culminating in multiple visits this spring. He’s already seen everything he needs to see, so at this point, these visits are more so to meet with the new coaching staff and become familiar with them. Notre Dame and Arizona State have also done a good job recruiting him, but at the end of the day, I agree with Smith and believe Burrell will be wearing the winged helmet when he gets to college.
