Keiran Govan, a three-star safety from Republic, Missouri, has committed to Mizzou. He is ranked as the #1 safety in Missouri for the 2027 class and is noted for his athleticism and vertical leap.

With the amount of turnover the Tigers have had at the safety position in recent years with players coming and going through the portal, Mizzou looks like they’ve landed a keeper from the high school ranks in three-star safety Keiran Govan.
Govan hails from Republic, Missouri in the southwestern part of the state and is a top 10 recruit in Missouri for 2027, ranking as the #1 safety in the Show-Me State class. Ranked as a three-star athlete in both 247 and On3, Govan brings smooth athleticism to match his 6-1, 200 lbs. frame. With room to grow, he already looks physically ready to play back-end of an SEC level defense as he has flashed a great vertical leap time and again on both defense and as a receiver for his Republic High School team. If the ball is high in the air, Govan is coming down with it just about every time.
Govan has the size and athleticism to fit in at free safety in an SEC defense. He’s rangy and can make up lost ground quickly if a receiver happens to get behind him, both with his speed and his leaping ability. He played a bit more in the box his junior year in high school, but I think that is more a function of the run-heavy types of offenses he mainly faced in the southwest Missouri circuit.
Should he add more weight to his frame and/or grow an inch or two before he moves to Columbia next year, there’s a chance he could get bumped down into more of a strong safety role as he does show an ability to be physical in coverage, particularly against tight ends. That said, most likely he’ll be stalking the deep field for the Tigers in the coming years.
I’m wary to ever project high school recruits to come in and get heavy minutes early in their careers in the SEC, particularly in the transfer portal era where rosters seem to always be veteran-heavy. That said, Govan’s athleticism means he can and probably should find a spot on special teams, particularly punt coverage and kickoff coverage units, as soon as he arrives on campus.
Whether or not he earns safety reps as a freshman probably depends more on the overall depth of the unit and his ability to pick up the playbook quickly, but if he is a quick study I could see him taking meaningful snaps by the time the 2028 season rolls around. Since he’s rated a three-star prospect, the consensus seems to be that he’ll take a few years to develop, if it all. I think he is underrated based on his athleticism and the fact that he’s from rural Missouruh. He may surprise some folks with how soon he’s able to get contribute for the Tigers.

Eli Drinkwitz landing the top safety in the state as well as yet another top 10 Missouri recruit for 2027 is always great news. It’s especially great news when it’s a player from the southwest part of the state — a region known historically for favoring our less-than-friendly neighbors to the south. Govan has an impressive regional offer list including Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas State, Iowa State and Louisville, among others.
Convincing him to stay home and develop in Columbia is yet another nice check mark in the win column for Drinkwitz and his recruiting staff as they try to build out their 2027 high school recruiting class with more developmental players while devoting more monetary resources to the transfer portal.
