Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet had a brutal night at Target Field on Monday, enduring the worst start of his career.
The reigning AL Cy Young runner-up didn't look like himself at all, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits and three walks in the Red Sox's 13-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins. He also yielded two home runs, did not strike anyone out and lasted just 1 2/3 innings. Of his 55 pitches, only 30 went for strikes.
Weirdly, Crochet isn't the only elite American League lefty who's had a tough time at Target Field lately.
Last week, Tarik Skubal and Framber Valdez both got shelled there as well during the Twins' four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers.
Skubal, the two-time defending AL Cy Young winner, had his worst start of the season in last Monday's series opener. He allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings -- all season-worsts for him -- in the Tigers' 4-2 loss.
The following day, Valdez was lit up in Detroit's 8-6 loss, getting torched for eight runs on 10 hits and two walks in five innings -- all season worsts for him as well in his first loss of the year.
Crochet, Skubal and Valdez are all two-time All-Stars who rank among the best pitchers in baseball, so it was surprising to see them all get tuned up at the same park during an eight-day span. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, or maybe Minnesota is seeing the ball really well there against lefties for some reason.
Either way, Crochet shouldn't feel too bad about Monday's poor outing.

Garrett Crochet's performance is notable as it marked the worst start of his career, raising concerns about his form as the reigning AL Cy Young runner-up.
