The Boston Red Sox were blown out by the Minnesota Twins in the first game of the series on Monday.
Boston gave the ball to ace left-hander Garrett Crochet, but he had a stunning outing, as he was pulled in the second inning. Crochet finished the game going just 1.2 innings, allowing 11 runs, 10 earned on nine hits while walking three. He set his career-high in earned runs allowed, and tied his career-high in hits allowed in the 11-6 loss to the Twins.
Following the outing, Red Sox catcher Carlos NarvĂĄez said he and Crochet need to figure out a solution quicker so he can stay in the game and limit the damage. But the catcher is confident Crochet will be better in his next start.
"Everything went so quick,â NarvĂĄez said postgame, via MLB.com. âNext time, if this happens, we have to figure it out quicker and do something better. He was executing and attacking, not afraid, and they were aggressive.
âIt doesnât feel good. We donât want that. I know Beast doesnât want that. Heâs a Beast. I know the next outing is going to be different.â
Although Crochetâs velocity was down, manager Alex Cora confirmed the left-hander is healthy and will be ready to start in his next turn in the rotation.
Boston will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday against the Twins at 7:40 p.m. ET.
