Fenway Park is one of the best hitting environments in baseball and a place where the Boston Red Sox have historically thrived, especially offensively.
Oddly, that hasn't been the case in 2026, however, particularly lately. Prior to Monday's series finale against the Detroit Tigers, the Red Sox were justĀ 4-5 at home this year while averaging 3.44 runs per game. They've been pitching well at Fenway this season, but they weirdly haven't been hitting well there.
That finally changed on Marathon Monday. After scoring just four runs onĀ 15 hitsĀ in 28 innings over the first three games of their series against the Tigers, Boston's slumbering bats finally woke up during their annual Patriots' Day matinee, clobbering Detroit for eight runs onĀ 12 hits in their 8-6 victory.
The eight runs were the Red Sox's most in a home game this season. Impressively, six of them came during their final three offensive innings against the Tigers' bullpen.
Boston had tons of traffic on the bases with 20 baserunners, so it was only a matter of time until they broke through. They did it the old-fashioned way with singles, doubles, walks and stolen bases, as not a single one of their hits .
Before the game against the Tigers, the Red Sox had a home record of 4-5.

The Red Sox went 5-for-19 with runners in scoring position and strandedĀ 12 runners, but they still did enough to outlast Detroit and earn a series split. Boston's bullpen needed the help after Sonny Gray exited in the third inning with hamstring tightness, but fortunately the bats stepped up in his absence.
The Red Sox will need their lumber this week with the New York Yankees coming to town on Tuesday for their first series of the season. The Yankees rank third in the American League in runs per game, so Boston will need to keep swinging the bats well if it wants to win the series.
