The Boston Red Sox got a positive injury update on first baseman Willson Contreras after he left Sunday’s game.

Contreras was hit on the hand in his first at-bat, and he was forced to leave the game with a right-hand contusion. Although Contreras was forced to leave the game, the Red Sox got some positive news as scans came back negative, according to interim manager Chad Tracy.

"The quick scans that we do here came back negative, which is good,” Tracy said postgame on Sunday. “Sore. That’s all we know at this point. Obviously, we have an off-day tomorrow that helps a lot. We’ll reevaluate tomorrow and the next day and see how he feels. Hopefully, he is okay there.”

Contreras was replaced by Andruw Monasterio in the second inning after being hit by a pitch.

The hope is that Contreras won’t need an IL stint as he’s been a key part of Boston’s offense. Roman Anthony, meanwhile, is already on the IL, so losing another impact hitter would be a tough blow to the lineup.
