Nottingham Forest stuns Chelsea 3-1, boosting survival chances in the Premier League.
The Red Sox lost 3-1 to the Astros in a tense 10th inning despite a potential escape from a bases-loaded situation. A double play helped them momentarily, but they couldn't secure the win.
BOSTON â The Red Sox initially appeared poised to escape a massive 10th-inning jam. But ultimately, they lost another low-scoring game, 3-1, to the Astros on Sunday.
With the bases loaded and no outs in extra innings, reliever Zack Kelly got Jose Altuve to ground into a 6-2-5 double play.
âYou feel like, âMan, this is a really bad spotâ and then in a blink of an eye, like, âHoly cow, weâve got a chance to get out of this with the ground ball,ââ interim manager Chad Tracy said.
Shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa fired home for the first out. Catcher Carlos NarvĂĄez then completed the double play with a force-out at third because Isaac Paredes, the runner at second base, didnât break right away when Altuve made contact.
âA really heads-up play by Narvi ready to throw a ball to third and you feel like youâre there,â Tracy said.
But the Red Sox werenât quite there with one out still needed. Kelly walked Brice Matthews to reload the bases. He then gave up a two-run single to Cam Smith that put the Astros ahead 3-1.
Ahead 1-2 in the count, Kelly left a sweeper up in the zone. Smith connected, sending it off the Green Monster.
âHad him set up for the sweeper I thought,â Kelly said. âTried to go away, got it away. But the ball was more up than I wanted. Got him out in front but like I said, the ball was a few inches too high.â
The final score was 3-1 in favor of the Astros.

The Red Sox had the chance to tie it or win it in the bottom of the 10th inning. Roman Anthony began the frame as the extra-inning automatic runner at second base.
Wilyer Abreu led off with a walk. Kiner-Falefa laid down a sacrifice bunt, sending Anthony to third base and Abreu to second base with one out.
Astros righty reliever Bryan Abreu hit Marcelo Mayer with a pitch to load the bases, but he then got Ceddanne Rafaela to ground into a 6-3 double play to end the game.
âUp and down emotionally, for sure,â Tracy said. âThen we come right back and have the bases loaded there ... and give ourselves another shot. So itâs difficult.â
The Red Sox offense went 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.
âA ton of opportunities, ton of at-bats with people on,â Tracy said. âSo the worst case could be youâre not getting the opportunities. Weâre getting them, but weâve got to execute them and thatâs a winnable game. Obviously we had a lot of chances for two-out hits, one-out hits with people on and just couldnât get it done.â
