The Boston Red Sox picked up a huge 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday in a game that Boston used the long ball.
Boston was built on pitching and defense, but on Wednesday, the Red Sox were backed by timely hits and home runs. Trevor Story hit a solo home run in the second inning, which was a key home run amid his struggles.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ceddanne Rafaela came in to pinch hit and hit a two-run home run with two outs to give Boston a 3-1 lead, which impressed interim manager Chad Tracy.
“You guys have seen there is a clutch gene in there with him, he tends to get big hits in big moments,” Tracy said postgame on Wednesday.
That ended up being enough to get the win, and following the victory, interim manager Chad Tracy said he’s hopeful the Red Sox can continue to hit the long ball more frequently.
“Tonight, we got the long ball and instant runs,” Tracy added. “It’s still three (runs). We want to get more obviously, but two big swings in big spots, and Rafaela obviously huge right there.”
