The Boston Red Sox paid quite the price when they acquired Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox ahead of the 2025 season. They parted ways with some impressive prospects, like Braden Montgomery, Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez.
Later that year, they had two first-round picks, selecting Oklahoma University RHP Kyson Witherspoon and Tennessee University RHP Marcus Phillips.
Those are two great picks, helping bolster the rotation in the farm system. But now the focus will be on who the club will select with their 20th overall pick later this summer.

Over the years, the Red Sox haven't been locked in with picking just high school or college talent. It's been a mixed bag in Boston, usually taking the best available player.
At pick 20, there will still be loads of talent to choose from, but do they go pitcher or position player? Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes University of Florida pitcher Liam Peterson will fall to them.
The specific SEC power pitcher linked to the Red Sox has not been named in the latest mock draft.

In the 2025 draft, the Red Sox selected Kyson Witherspoon from Oklahoma and Marcus Phillips from Tennessee.

"Peterson began the spring squarely in the conversation to be the first pitcher taken in the 2026 draft, but he has walked 25 batters in 45 innings and actually taken a step backward with his command. He still has electric stuff, a durable 6'5", 225-pound frame and a 34.4 percent strikeout rate, but he comes with enough risk to fit better at the back of the first round than the top."
Before the season, it was thought that Peterson could be the first arm off the board, but he has struggled this season. Still with his struggles, he has all the makings to be a frontline starter.
He will need to work on his command, and hope he can finish the season strong. If not, he could be dropping down even more spots.
