A prospect has made a stellar first impression to begin his professional career with the Boston Red Sox.
Anthony Eyanson was untouchable in Saturday's game for High-A Greenville, his second start of the season. The 21-year-old retired all 13 batters faced, recording seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 perfect frames.
Eyanson induced 11 whiffs in just 54 pitches, and the opposition didn't hit a single batted ball into the outfield. MLB Pipeline posted some highlights from his filthy performance at Spartanburg.
Part of a pitcher-heavy start to last year's draft, the Red Sox selected Eyanson in the third round out of LSU. The right-hander has since displayed an intriguing velocity jump, reaching 100 mph in last month's Spring Breakout game after his heater sat around 92-94 in college.
Eyanson has paired high heat with considerable command, stockpiling 13 strikeouts to no walks in two gems. He's allowed just three hits and one run over 7 1/3 frames.
Entering the season, MLB.com ranked Eyanson as Boston's No. 10 prospect. The 6-foot-2 hurler trailed six other Red Sox pitchers, including fellow 2025 draft picks Kyson Witherspoon (No. 4) and Marcus Phillips (No. 9).
More outings like Saturday's could catapult Eyanson up the team rankings, and potentially into the overall top-100 leaderboard. The Red Sox will hope to develop another promising young pitcher with Connelly Early succeeding in the majors, Payton Tolle beckoning to join him and 19-year-old phenom Juan Valera putting his name on the map.
