The Boston Red Sox are predicted to be a top trade candidate for Miami Marlins' Cy Young winner Sandy Alcántara, who has a 2.67 ERA this season. Acquiring Alcántara would significantly strengthen their pitching lineup alongside Garrett Crochet and Ranger Suarez.

The Boston Red Sox have had a rough start to 2026, but have started to get it together, with a record of 8-12 and fourth place in the AL East. Their gamble to double down on pitching hasn’t really worked so far, but they have gotten better.
That being said, if they are going to continue on this path, they might need to double down on their pitching once again. Luckily, it seems like they can land a top ace, as Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy sees Boston as a top landing spot for Miami Marlins Cy Young, Sandy Alcantara.

“Sandy Alcántara is back to ace form. He has a 2.67 ERA in four starts so far this season. If the Marlins are open to dealing him, they are going to get a haul. Potential Landing Spots: Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays,” McAvoy wrote.
So far this season, Alcantara has posted a 2-2 record, a 3.06 ERA, 23 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.047 in 35 innings pitched. He’s really only had one bad start, and for the others, has looked like he’s vying for a second Cy Young.

Alcantara would also work in Boston’s self-imposed budget. He’s only set to make $17.3 million this season, and he has a club option for $21 million next season, so the Sox would have options if they want to keep him or not.
If the Sox were to do this, they would have to give up a haul. Also, they would need to open a spot in their rotation, meaning probably Brayan Bello or Connelly Early would have to be a part of it.
However, if it helps the Sox win another championship, so be it.
