The Boston Red Sox may not be off to the start they had hoped, but there are still good things happening in other levels of the organization.
In Double-A, the Red Sox's No. 2 prospect, Franklin Arias, is off to a dominant start. He is slashing .450/.531/.900. His 1,431 OPS is not only the best in Double-A, but it is the best among all players in the minor leagues. He has hit five home runs in the last six games. He also has a strikeout rate of jus 8.2%, ranking ninth among all minor leaguers.
Arias is the No. 26 overall prospect in baseball and is only 20 years old. The young shortstop added some weight this year, and his power numbers at the plate are indicative of that. He hit eight home runs all of last season, between Single-A, High-A and Double-A. He is proving to be one of the best prospects in baseball and could soon be the Red Sox's top prospect.
The Red Sox's current top prospect is Payton Tolle, who has already made his big league debut. Arias' hot start could also shoot him up MLB Pipeline's Top 100 prospects list.
The Red Sox's future looks to be in a bright spot, but the key for Arias now is to maintain his newfound power and continue to surge through the minor leagues. If he keeps playing like this with Double-A Portland, he could be in Worcester very soon.
