The Boston Red Sox have been linked to just about every first baseman in Major League Baseball over the past year and a half, though they went out this offseason and made an impressive move for first baseman Willson Contreras.
It remains uncertain if the Red Sox view him as the long-term option at the position, though he's getting older in his career and it might not be the worst idea to go after somebody else.
One name that popped up a ton was Houston Astros first baseman, Christian Walker. Walker and Isaac Paredes have both been names that the Red Sox could go after, with Paredes being the top of the bunch because of the obvious need for a third baseman in Boston.
While the fit is there, it doesn't sound like the Red Sox are the only team interested in Paredes, with the latest report suggesting multiple teams are interested in the Astros slugger.

The Red Sox may not see Willson Contreras as a long-term solution at first base due to his age and performance.

“If Houston decides to sell, Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes are potential trade candidates. Walker, 35, has been much better in his second season in Houston and is hitting .276/.351/.513 with nine home runs and 27 RBI. He’s signed through 2027 on a three-year, $60 million contract and could be an intriguing option for a team seeking first base help.
“Paredes, meanwhile, has been the subject of trade rumors for months. The Boston Red Sox were connected to him in the winter, but they were not the only team with interest. He’s hitting .271/.362/.391 with three home runs and 17 RBI this season,” Robert Murray reported.
The Astros haven't been as disappointing as the Red Sox have been, but they're pretty close.
Paredes seems to be a guy who's definitely going to be traded at some point over the next few months. Unless the Red Sox turn the season around, though, it might be best to lay off and go about things in the offseason when they can reassess all of their problems at once.
