The Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Wednesday night, but Connor Wong exited the game with an injury.
Wong got up from his stance to catch a pop-up in foul territory, but he seemed to trip on the batter, Edmundo Sosa, and ended up on the ground. Garrett Whitlock came in to secure the out with a sliding grab, but Carlos Narváez replaced Wong in the following inning.
According to MassLive's Christopher Smith, he hurt his ankle, and the initial imaging came back negative. Wong spoke on the injury after the game.
“It’s a little sore,” Wong said. “I’ve done this one before. Much worse. So everything we did seemed like it was going to be fine. So kind of see how it is in the morning and go from there.”

“Kind of just was backing up, trying to get a better angle on it,” Wong added. “Must have stepped on him and kind of rolled up. It was kind of, ‘Dang, that really hurt.’ And then realized that the ball was still in the air, and then heard the crowd and saw Whitlock out of the corner of my eye and glad he made the catch.”
Wong's status over the next couple of days will be worth monitoring. The Red Sox do have Mickey Gasper available to catch if they need someone besides Narváez behind the plate.
