The Boston Red Sox's starting rotation has already dealt with plenty of injuries this season, but it is trending in the right direction.
Boston invested a lot into its rotation this offseason, adding star pitchers like Sonny Gray and Ranger Suárez. Despite the new additions, the Red Sox's starting rotation has struggled early on this season and has been plagued by injuries.
Multiple key starters have missed time for the Red Sox this season, with Gray recently returning from a hamstring sprain and Suárez set to pitch later this week after leaving his May 4 start with hamstring tightness.
Though Boston's rotation is nearly at full strength, left-handed ace Garrett Crochet is still recovering from discomfort in his left shoulder. The 26-year-old has been out of action since being placed on the 15-day injured list, last pitching on April 25, but is throwing off a mound on Wednesday for a bullpen session, according to The Boston Globe's Tim Healey.
"Garrett Crochet said he is throwing a bullpen session today," Healey shared in a post to X on Wednesday. "That’s a big step in his return from a left shoulder injury."
Garrett Crochet is taking major steps forward in his rehab, indicating positive progress.

Throwing off a mound is a big step in the right direction for Crochet. Though the two-time All-Star has struggled early on this season, posting a 6.30 ERA across his first six appearances, he's still Boston's best starter.
Crochet's return will give the Red Sox's rotation a major boost, but there is still no definitive timeline for his return as he's yet to begin a formal rehab assignment.
