The Boston Red Sox earned a much needed win on Wednesday, closing out their series with the surging Minnesota Twins on a high note.
As the team looks to recover from a last-place position in the American League East division, they will be hoping to carry that momentum into their upcoming series with the Detroit Tigers. But in the meantime, they are still dealing with some off-field fallout from their visit to Minnesota.

Duran made headlines last year with a revelation about a suicide attempt that he shared in a Netflix documentary. And he has also received some attention for his interactions with hostile fans, including the and a who reportedly also mocked his mental health struggles.

Detailing his latest hostile interaction with a fan, Duran told the media that âsomebody told me to kill myself,â though he didnât directly inform manager Alex Cora or his teammates about it. The Twins promptly launched an investigation into the incident, but as of this writing on Thursday, that has yet to uncover any notable evidence.
Instead, the initial findings suggest fans in the area sent a more performance-focused taunt at Durran before he reacted.
âA league source said multiple people seated in the area had been interviewed,â Dan Hayes and Jen McCaffrey reported for The Athletic. âOne person with knowledge of the event said fans were bragging afterward that Duran had raised his middle finger at them after they had mocked his swing.â
The investigation also has yet to uncover any audio â either from the present television microphones or via potential fan footage shared in the public sphere â to corroborate Duranâs claims, despite the fact that only about 10,00 fans were in attendance.
But as the ongoing investigation failed to produce any initial evidence to substantiate Durranâs claim, the Red Sox offered a clear message of support after Wednesdayâs game.
âWe fully support Jarren,â the team wrote in a statement, per Hayes and McCaffrey. âHe spoke after the game and took full accountability for his reaction in the moment. Comments directed at players that cross the line have no place in our game. Jarren has been open about his struggles with mental health and using that as a point of attack is unacceptable.â
