Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier sidelined until at least June due to ankle surgery.
Nick Lodolo is set to make a rehab start on Sunday in Dayton after recovering from a blister injury. His return is crucial as the Reds face rotation challenges with Hunter Greene also sidelined.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The timeline for left-hander Nick Lodolo’s return from the injured list appears to be coming into focus after a three-inning simulated game before the Cincinnati Reds’ game against the Rays on April 21.
Lodolo, who opened the season in the IL because of a blister on his index finger, fared well enough after throwing 50 pitches in the sim game that he’s scheduled to open a minor-league rehab assignment Sunday in Dayton with the High-A Dragons.
“I feel great,” said Lodolo, whose late-spring blister stretched the Reds’ rotation depth to its limits, with ace Hunter Greene already out until at least midseason because of elbow surgery to remove bone chips.

During the sim game, Lodolo didn’t throw any breaking pitches, which tend to create the bigger blister risk. But he threw them warming up before the game, and he expects to unleash all his pitches in Dayton.

Lodolo, one of top two pitchers on the staff, might need three or four rehab starts after missing so much time.
“I need to get built up to a point where it doesn’t hurt the team,” he said. “That’s the thing that sucks about it, because it’s taking longer because of that fact that I have to build all the way up again.”
Lodolo made it 40 pitches into his first rehab start April 2 before aggravating the blister the first time he seemed near a return from the IL.
A three-start rehab assignment could mean a return to the rotation for Lodolo sometime during the Reds’ May 8-14 homestand against Houston and Washington.
