The right-hander fired a perfect eighth inning against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The outing marked Antone’s return to the major leagues after a third Tommy John surgery.

“It felt great. All of the emotions, like super-pumped in that moment,” said Antone, recalled from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day. “I came into the dugout, huge congratulations from the teammates and I walked to the end of the dugout and it kind of hit me then. Couple of tears. I had to step away for a second.
“Wow, just an amazing night, an amazing comeback.”
According to Reds beat writer C. Trent Rosecrans, Antone’s wife, Kelsi, left a work conference in Orlando to be in attendance for Wednesday’s game. She arrived in the fifth inning and was shown on the television broadcast celebrating her husband’s outing.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Antone. In between striking out Alex Bregman and Selya Suzuki, he gave up a long fly ball to Ian Happ. Reds center fielder TJ Friedl made a leaping grab into the ivy, inspiring a tip of the cap from Antone.

After fanning Suzuki for the final out, Antone pounded his chest and yelled “Let’s go!” toward the Reds dugout.
Antone’s inspirational return seemed to fire up Cincinnati. The Reds scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead. Alas, the Cubs rallied for a 7-6 win in 10 innings for their third straight walk-off victory and 14th straight home win.
Antone’s most recent rehab began after his last MLB appearance, which came April 7, 2024, against the New York Mets. He also underwent the ulnar collateral ligament surgery, known as the Tommy John procedure, in 2017 as a minor-leaguer and as a Reds pitcher in 2021.
Cincinnati signed Antone to a minor-league contract this offseason and sent him to Louisville. He returned to the majors after Reds closer Emilio Pagan suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s game.
According to MLB.com, Jonny Venters and Jason Isringhausen are the only other MLB pitchers to return after three elbow surgeries.
Antone is just happy to have a chance to write a new chapter to his career.
“It’s not over. It’s just getting started again,” he said.
