Moicano claimed ‘The Nightmare’ would have secured a one-sided victory over McGregor when he addressed rumours the UFC had considered the matchup for the Irishman’s return.
His comments followed Prates’ impressive win over former welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena. That performance further strengthened the Brazilian’s growing reputation.
On his own YouTube channel, Moicano said: “They wanted to match Carlos Prates vs Conor McGregor. Can you imagine how McGregor would have been trashed? The best call UFC has ever made was not to make that fight.”
“It would have turned Prates into a global star. Prates would have destroyed McGregor in a way never seen before.”
Prates is now positioning himself as a leading contender in the division.
His recent form has placed him firmly in the title conversation.
He has publicly expressed interest in facing the winner of a potential bout between Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry. That fight has not yet been confirmed, but appears close to being finalised.
