Things are continuing to heat up regarding the impending sale of the Seattle Seahawks franchise. Earlier on Thursday, Sportico published a report stating members of the Boston Celtics ownership group, investor Aditya Mittal and former majority owner Wyc Grousbeck, had submitted a letter of interest to Allen and Company - the investment bank facilitating the Seahawks' sale. Now, there appears to be another interested party.
Sportico is also reporting that Indian billionaire Vinod Khosla has also submitted a letter of interest to Allen and Company. The 71-year old is a co-founder of Sun Microsystems and a founder of Khosla Ventures. What makes this bid particularly interesting is Khosla is currently an investor with the rival San Francisco 49ers, having partnered with other wealthy Bay Area families to purchase $8.5 billion dollars worth of ownership in the team. Needless to say, Khosla is quite familiar with how business is done when it comes to NFL ownership.
According to Forbes, Khosla has a net worth of $14.4 billion dollars.
The Seattle Seahawks are widely expected to sell for anywhere in the $8-$11 billion dollar range, which means Khosla will likely have to assemble an ownership group himself. Should he be successful in his bid to purchase the Seahawks, he will have to sell his shares in the 49ers.
We at Seahawks Wire will continue to monitor this situation for any new developments.
