The Michigan Wolverines have been working the transfer portal and high school recruiting over the last couple weeks to build for future years under Dusty May. After securing the No. 2 high school recruiting class in 2026, headlined by five star guard Brandon McCoy and four star forward Quinn Costello, May is already looking to 2027 and is set to host one of the top recruits in the country this coming weekend.
2027 five-star center Obinna Ekezie Jr., a 7-foot center in the 2027 class, will take an official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend. This was first reported by On3’s Joe Tipton ($).
The 7-foot, 220-pound center is a consensus Top 10 prospect among the major recruiting services. The 247Sports Composite tabs him as the No. 7 prospect in the 2027 cycle and the No. 1 ranked center, and On3 has him as the No. 2 overall recruit and the top-ranked center.
In 2024 for Prolific Prep, Ekezie averaged 10 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists per game en route to a Third-Team MaxPreps Sophomore All-American season. During the NBPA Top 100 Camp last June, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in three games against some of the top high school competition. And for his junior season at in Orlando, he averaged 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
Obinna Ekezie Jr. is a 7-foot center in the 2027 class, ranked as the No. 7 prospect by 247Sports and the No. 2 overall recruit by On3.
Hosting Ekezie is significant for Michigan as he is a top recruit, which could enhance their future basketball roster under coach Dusty May.
Obinna Ekezie Jr. is scheduled for an official visit to Michigan this weekend.

According to Tipton, the Lagos native could also potentially reclassify, meaning he could be an addition to the already stellar 2026 class May has put together. The Wolverines could use a center for next season with Aday Mara expected to go to the NBA Draft. Adding Ekezie to either the 2026 or 2027 class would be a massive addition for the Wolverines.
Ekezie is the son of former NBA player Obinna Ekezie, who played for the Wizards, Mavericks, Clippers and Hawks. In addition to Michigan, Ekezie also holds offers from Kentucky, USC, Ohio State, Louisville, Auburn, BYU, Georgetown, Kansas, North Carolina and others.
