The New England Patriots are expected to acquire A.J Brown in the coming weeks, but one insider reports that Brown is not the only asset the team could be getting.
The Patriots are "likely" to acquire Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles after June 1. The fact that the Eagles drafted a wide receiver in the first round and that the Patriots did not draft a receiver only strengthens the belief that a trade is coming. It has long been believed that Brown will cost the Patriots a first-round pick, but according to Patriots insider Tom Curran, there could be something in addition to Brown coming to New England to dampen the cost for the Patriots.
"From what I’ve heard, this is a future first-rounder, but there could be something in return that would set it up so that it’s not as much for the New England Patriots to give," Curran said on Thursday.
The belief is that the Patriots will send a 2028 first-round pick to the Eagles. However, a first-round pick for a wide receiver, and a contract like Brown's, straight up, is a steep price. The Eagles' tacking on an extra draft pick or player would help the Patriots. However, the Eagles do not have to go out of their way to do that.
The Patriots are likely to acquire A.J. Brown from the Eagles after June 1, with speculation that additional assets may also be included in the trade.
The likelihood of the trade stems from the Eagles drafting a wide receiver in the first round and the Patriots not selecting a receiver in the draft.
It has been believed that A.J. Brown will cost the Patriots a first-round pick, but there are indications that they may receive more than just Brown in the trade.

On the other hand, the Patriots already signed Romeo Doubs this offseason, so they could threaten to back out of the deal if the Eagles do not add something else. The Eagles could then find a different suitor for Brown, but they may not be able to get the same return. The Eagles and Patriots still have to finalize the deal, but all signs point toward it getting done.
The only thing remaining to be seen is the compensation. Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL and has been itching to play for the Patriots, his childhood team, and to reunite with Mike Vrabel.
