Rhys Hoskins, a former top prospect, is adapting to a new role with the Cleveland Guardians, focusing on veteran leadership rather than everyday at-bats. He aims to contribute to the team's success as they develop younger players.

Looking back to 2017, Rhys Hoskins was considered a top-15 prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system.
Since then, the first baseman has gone on to have a successful career, as he closes in on 200 home runs and owns an .818 OPS since his big-league debut almost a decade ago.
While the Cleveland Guardians are still relying on Hoskins to provide some sort of production at the plate, they also brought him into the organization to provide veteran leadership for their still-young roster.
With this role comes several responsibilities, one of which is the possibility of no longer seeing everyday at-bats, while making an impact behind the scenes.
Stephen Vogt admitted, "it’s a different role for Rhys. It's definitely taken some time to get used to it."
Hoskins also acknowledged that it's still a role he's getting used to, and that it could take some time to fully understand the best way to make an impact in it.
“It’s a learning experience, for sure," Hoskins said.
"I've obviously been on teams where this role is filled by a good player as well, and tried to watch them. But finding yourself in it, trying to figure out how to acclimate to this group of guys, specifically and this staff is, I think, something that just takes time.

Rhys Hoskins is now expected to provide veteran leadership and support for the Guardians' young roster, rather than focusing solely on everyday at-bats.
Rhys Hoskins is closing in on 200 home runs since his debut in the major leagues.
Stephen Vogt mentioned that it's a different role for Rhys Hoskins and that it has taken some time for him to adjust.

It's tough because, unlike with a box score or season stats, a veteran can never truly know whether what they're doing or saying to young players is making that impact.
That said, Chase DeLauter said last month when he was facing some adversity at the plate that he looked to the team's veterans, such as Hoskins, to help him get through it.
Just like that, DeLauter has a double-digit on-base streak, and the veteran slugger
Even though Hoskins isn't getting those everyday at-bats, Cleveland's skipper also made it clear that the veteran is making his presence known.
"His veteran presence and his veteran at bat quality is really what we love about him," continued Vogt. "And such a tremendous teammate. He's helping our young guys get better."
If Hoskins' bat can heat up and remain a positive presence and influence on the young players on Cleveland's roster, he has a chance to be a true game-changer for the Guardians as the season carries on.
