FOXBOROUGH, Mass — New England Patriots captain Robert Spillane dealt with some injuries during the 2025 season, missing four games during the regular season as well as leaving the AFC Championship matchup early due to an ankle injury.
While it certainly impacted his play later in the season, there is some good news as the focus now turns to the 2026 season.
"No surgery," Spillane said when asked if he required an offseason procedure following Super Bowl LX. "Take care of myself. The guys upstairs in the weight room also take care of me. So we've had a great plan and just continue to progress."
And while these injuries can be frustrating, Spillane acknowledged that it's the risk they take when playing the game they love.
"That's part of the game we play," Spillane said. "We sign up to get injured, to bang into each other, to put our bodies on the line. That's just part of the business we play. And just so proud of guys stepping up behind me. Obviously, you want to do everything you can to get back out on the field.
"You hate missing snaps. You hate feeling like you're letting your team down every time you're not on the field. But I'm just really proud of the guys that stepped up and made big plays when it came to (me) getting healthy."
