Firing a coach in the early stages of the season typically doesn't end well throughout an entire year.
From the Boston Red Sox's perspective, it almost feels like this will put them in a spot where they don't even make the playoffs come October. Perhaps it fires the guys up and they start playing better under their interim head coach, but that usually isn't the case.
While moving on from Alex Cora has raised many questions for the organization, whether fair or unfair, it's also brought some interesting answers from some of the top players in the organization.
The latest to make one of those interesting comments was Roman Anthony, who, despite the Red Sox being 11-17, believes his team still has an opportunity to win a World Series.
“We can still win the World Series,” Anthony said, per the Globe. “I know people on the outside probably don’t agree with that, and a lot of s—‘s going on right now. But for us, and for myself — at least I can speak for myself — the standard for me remains the same. My commitment to this team, this city, these people, is still the exact same. I still feel the same way. I love where I play, and I want to be here for a long time.”
If we're going based on bold takes here, this might have been one of the craziest takes of the weekend, as nothing so far has suggested that the Red Sox can win it all.
If we're going strictly by talent, Boston has a lot of it, but that doesn't mean it has put it all together or shown any signs of doing so.
Roman Anthony stated that he believes the Red Sox still have an opportunity to win the World Series despite their current record.
Firing a coach early in the season often leads to negative outcomes for the team, potentially impacting their chances of making the playoffs.
The Boston Red Sox currently have a record of 11 wins and 17 losses.
