Ronda Rousey hasn't forgotten 'nasty ass sh*t' UFC legend said about her
Ronda Rousey was blindsided by Demetrious Johnson's harsh words nine years ago â and she's still not OK with it.
Back in May 2017, roughly six months after her 48-second TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, Rousey basically went into hiding and didn't talk publicly about the two-fight skid â including her stunning knockout loss to Holly Holm â that closed out her otherwise illustrious career. During a Q&A interview published by Sports Illustrated, Johnson was asked about setting himself for potential disappointment if he didn't break Anderson Silva's record for consecutive UFC title defenses in his next fight, and his answer involved a scathing criticism of Rousey.
âYou look at Ronda Rousey. You got your ass beat, grow the f*ck up," Johnson said. "It happens. Itâs mixed martial arts. I donât want to be like that. If I lose, Iâll be like, 'I lost.' ⊠'Everybody f*cking loses. Itâs part of the sport. Grow up. Look, Ronda, you lost two f*cking fights in a row, and you made more f*cking money than the womenâs roster. Youâll be fine. Donât worry about it.â
Those comments didn't sit well with Rousey back then, and for nine years she never responded â until now.
In an Instagram video posted by All the Smoke on Wednesday, Rousey was asked if she'd pick Nate Diaz or others in a fight. When the interviewer asked if she'd pick Diaz or Johnson, Rousey's tone got serious.
"F*ck you, DJ, OK?" Rousey said. "I was totally cool about you, and I put you over, and you were being â you said some nasty ass sh*t about me."
Johnson went on to break Silva's record with his 11th consecutive defense of the UFC flyweight title when he submitted Ray Borg with an iconic flying armbar at UFC 216. Johnson lost the belt in his ensuing fight against Henry Cejudo and was traded by the UFC to ONE Championship for Ben Askren.
