Rosenior fumes at ‘unacceptable’ Chelsea defeat to Brighton
Liam Rosenior slammed his Chelsea players for putting in an “unacceptable performance” against Brighton on Tuesday night as they lost 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.
The Blues got off to a nightmare start when Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring just two minutes after the game kicked off. They didn’t take their first shot on goal until the 41st and were fortunate not to be further behind by the break.
The Seagulls did double their lead ten minutes into the second half when Jack Hinshelwood scored on the break. Danny Welbeck completed the rout with a sliding finish in stoppage time.
It’s the first time Chelsea have lost five successive league games since 1912 and deals a major blow to their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Brighton have now overtaken them in the Premier League table, bumping them down to seventh.
Rosenior has been largely level headed in his public comments since becoming head coach in January, but the 41-year-old did not hold back in his post-match interview, telling Sky Sports it was their worst result “by far” since he arrived.
“It was unacceptable in every aspect of the game,” he said. “I keep coming out and defending the players, that was indefensible, that performance tonight. The manner of the goals we conceded, the duels that we lost. Something has to change drastically right here, right now.”
When asked why did it happen, Rosenior responded: “Why? We need to look in the mirror. I need to look in the mirror. But I can’t keep coming out here and defending some of the things that we’re seeing.

“Manchester United, genuinely result wasn’t there but I felt we turned a corner. But the general attitude, spirit was lacking; determination from three or four of the starting eleven.
“That’s nowhere near enough for this club. I can’t come out and lie. I tell the truth. That was an unacceptable performance at every level.”
