The Kansas City Royals are not having a great season in 2026 by any means. They're 17-20, and while they are just 1.5 games back of the AL Central lead, there is plenty to be worried about this season.
Things could very easily fall apart over the next two months, and if that happens, the Royals would likely be headed for a sell-off at the MLB trade deadline.
Robert Murray of Fansided.com noted one Royals pitcher who could be a trade candidate this year, but the one he focused on wasn't the expiring contract of Kris Bubic. Instead, it was Michael Wacha, who is a bit more of an intriguing trade target.
"But Wacha will draw plenty of interest if the Kansas City Royals are out of contention at the deadline," Murray writes. "... His numbers and his controllability should make him highly sought after in July and August."
With Wacha being under club control for the 2027 season as well and pitching admirably, there is sure to be plenty of interest in his services at this year's deadline. The Royals, with such a strong interest, should consider a deal with the 34-year-old.
Michael Wacha is seen as a valuable trade candidate due to his performance and potential to bring back a strong return for the Royals.
The Kansas City Royals currently have a record of 17-20 in the 2026 season.
If the Royals' performance does not improve, they may head for a sell-off at the MLB trade deadline.

Of course, the Royals should only consider moving Wacha if they're out of things by the MLB trade deadline at the beginning of August.
If they are in such a situation, there might not be many pitchers in baseball that could fetch the return the Royals could get for Wacha.
He has a 3.05 ERA through seven starts, has been in the Majors for 14 years, and has been fairly solid his entire career, pitching better lately, with a 3.43 ERA since 2022 compared to a 4.14 ERA from 2013 through 2021.
His $51 million deal through the 2027 season and 2028 club option would make Wacha a very appealing trade target for teams looking for help not just in 2026 but beyond as well.
If the Royals are out of the postseason hunt by the deadline, Wacha would make a ton of sense to trade, as they could get a very strong return in a trade for a starter who's as good as Wacha.
He'd bring back the best value of almost any pitcher that could be traded at this year's deadline, and would make a ton of sense for the Royals to part with if they're sellers by this August.
