While the Kansas City Royals are fighting to dig themselves out of the early-season hole they put themselves in, we are inching closer and closer to the 2026 MLB Draft.
It begins on July 11th this year, and the Chicago White Sox are the lucky team that has been given the first overall pick. For Kansas City, they were awarded the sixth pick, which is a lot higher than 23rd overall, like they had last summer.
There will be a ton of talent to decide over in this spot. The question is, does the front office want to target a position player, or do they feel more comfortable going after an arm?

When looking back at the Royals' six first-round picks, there is a trend. They have only drafted one true pitcher throughout that time, and that was prep arm Frank Mozzicato, back in 2021.
And while they could shock everyone and go after an arm, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes they will select Texas A&M 2B Chris Hacopian.
"Hacopian has landed at second base in College Station after playing shortstop last season at Maryland. That's probably where he fits best at the next level. That said, it's his 60-grade hit tool and overall offensive polish that make him one of the safest players in the entire class."
He has been excellent with the bat in his hands for the Aggies, hitting .289/.393/.496 with seven doubles, six home runs, and 27 runs batted in.
Hacopian has no trouble punishing fastballs and is someone who makes consistent contact at the plate. He could be a great addition to this Royals' organization with how well he handles the bat, and with his experience playing shortstop, second, and third base in college so far.
