A new report is not good news for LA Knight’s future in WWE.
Knight has become a major fan-favorite in the company because of how he was able to overcome the obstacles placed in front of him. Despite being a star in TNA and NXT, when Knight originally came to the main roster in 2022, his character was completely altered, and he was renamed Max Dupri.
It seemed like he would be the latest veteran doomed by Vince McMahon’s altered vision for established talent. However, when the WWE founder began to lose his control of the company and Paul “Triple H” Levesque took on a greater role in the company, Knight was allowed to return to his regular persona and given more opportunities.
While he was mostly used at first as an enhancement talent, his charisma was undeniable, and he evolved into being one of the notable baby faces on the roster in 2024. However, despite the hope fans have that he would eventually win a world title, Knight remains outside the main event picture as we close in on the summer of 2026.
More worrisome news emerged this week when BodySlam+ reported Knight was penciled into a post WrestleMania 42 feud with former heavyweight champion Gunther. However, as fans saw on last week’s edition of SmackDown, the “Career Killer” made a surprise appearance and attacked Undisputed WWE Champ Cody Rhodes. Setting up a feud on the blue brand.
LA Knight was reportedly removed from a major storyline due to ongoing changes in WWE's creative direction.
His removal from a major storyline raises concerns about his future in WWE and whether he might face a release.
Since 2022, LA Knight has transitioned from being renamed Max Dupri to regaining his original persona and becoming a notable fan-favorite.

Heading into April’s mega-event, rumors emerged that Knight was being considered for a major matchup with Brock Lesnar. That, of course, went to super-prospect Oba Femi instead. This would now be a second feud with an elite talent that has been scrapped.
Two weeks ago, WWE moved on from 23 veterans and prospects, including all of the Wyatt Sicks, as well as Aleister Black and Zelina Vega. It was also revealed that some of the cuts were “age-related.” Furthermore, it was revealed over the weekend that TKO has asked several performers to take roster cuts, and it played a role in legends Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods leaving the company.
Considering his age (43) and another major feud being taken away, LA Knight should be worried about his spot in the company because he is likely making good money after reportedly agreeing to a new contract two years ago. According to BodySlam+, Knight is still in the company. But fans are sure to wonder how much longer that will last if he isn’t added to a major story soon.
