However, Raum’s contract is expiring in the summer of 2027, so it seems Liverpool probably deem him to be such a potential bargain that they’re willing to concede on the age profile. In addition to his exception crossing, set-piece taking and passing abilities, the German international also brings leadership, which could potentially be seen as something that’s needed with Robbo’s departure.
It would be interesting to see how this plays into Milos Kerkez’s situation. He has certainly progressed this season, and the fee paid for him certainly cements him as the future of the left-back position for the foreseeable future. Asking Raum to give up his postion as a starter and captain for Leipzig, to be back-up for Kerkez honestly just seems like so much of a stretch. Perhaps they’ve already had signals behind the scenes that a new opportunity abroad or role would be of interest to the player, because the current puzzle pieces don’t really make much sense as of now. But hey if Liverpool can pull it off, it would be one hell of a coup.
