Virgil van Dijk is reportedly a target for Galatasaray as Liverpool faces uncertainty at the end of the 2025-26 season. Speculative rumors from Turkish sources suggest potential interest in the captain, who has a year left on his contract.
Liverpool are limping towards the end of the 2025-26 season, a side set to qualify for the Champions League yet one that too often appears limp, tired, and still without a tactical identity in May, and what the future might hold for this group is massively uncertain.
The club continue to signal their unwavering support for embattled head coach Arne Slot despite that the Dutch trainer appears to have lost the faith of Anfield, but while Slot may be staying the club appear set to clear out an awful lot of players in the coming months.
Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are certain to leave. Alisson Becker and Cirtus Jones and Joe Gomez and Alexis Mac Allister could join them. And then there’s captain Virgil van Dijk, who has a year left on his contract but could also maybe be moving on.
It’s worth noting up front the chatter on the Van Dijk front far more speculative, a smattering of questionably sourced rumours in Turkish outlets this week claiming Galatasaray interest, but that talk has since been passed along by English outlets like The Echo.
Previously, there were also whispers Van Dijk could follow the example of Salah and mutually agree to terminate his contract, forgoing the final year in favour of a move to the continent. What Liverpool would look like if even half these departures go through is worrying.
Rumors suggest that Galatasaray is interested in signing Virgil van Dijk, but there is no confirmation of a move yet.
Despite losing the faith of fans, Liverpool continues to support head coach Arne Slot as the team prepares for significant changes.
Players such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Alisson Becker, and Joe Gomez are expected to leave Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window.

After winning the Premier League last season with a squad that appeared stocked full of high quality talent, a £450M summer spree—with, it should be noted, far too many departures to help balance that spend—and a year later we appear set for a full rebuild.
This isn’t how it was supposed to go. Players like Konaté and Mac Allister and Jones were meant to be the core of the future. A year ago, the consensus was they were. Now they’re unwanted—or want out. Either way, we weren’t meant to be starting from scratch in 2026.
Whether this is a failure of head coach Slot to get the best out of his players or a failure on the recruitment side by directors Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, this is a failure. A massive and, for those involved, damning one. There is simply no way of getting around it.
