Two programs have emerged as frontrunners for Port Charlotte quarterback Logan Flaherty, the No. 80 overall player in the Florida Top 100 for 2027.
Flaherty originally committed to UCF in October, but decommitted in April after a strong junior campaign where he led the Pirates to an 11-3 record and regional championship, one of the best seasons in program history.
He finished the year with 2,636 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. An impressive camp circuit only boosted his stock.
âObviously I had a lot of love for (UCF), and things just didnât work out the way I wanted them to work out. So for me itâs not restarting the process entirely, but making sure I go through the process the right way. ⊠When I opened it back up, I was flooded. A lot of schools were reaching back out.â
Flahertyâs spring visit schedule included Georgia Tech, Memphis, USF, Florida, UCF and Rutgers. He says a decision is coming in the next two to three weeks, with Rutgers and Florida State leading the race for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal caller.
âRutgers and Florida State are the big two right now,â Flaherty said. âI would say theyâre at the top.â
Rutgers offered Flaherty on Feb. 2, and have been sending the house ever since.
âEver since Rutgers offered me, theyâve been all over me,â he said. âI would say Rutgers has been the most consistent and talking to me two-to-three times a week. And when I went up to the visit, they gave me the full show. ⊠Theyâve been the most consistent from January to now.â
While Rutgers is not known as a historically successful program, that doesnât bother Flaherty. He says the blueprint exists with the Scarlet Knights, and things are not as dreary as they seem at its surface.
Logan Flaherty finished his junior season with 2,636 passing yards and 27 touchdowns.
He decommitted from UCF after feeling that things didn't work out as he wanted, despite having a strong junior campaign.
Rutgers and Florida State are currently the frontrunners for Logan Flaherty's commitment.
Logan Flaherty plans to make his decision in the next two to three weeks.

âObviously people are going to look at the record in past years and think theyâve been mediocre, per say,â Flaherty said. âBut I do research. Google is free, anyone can do research, so I go on there and research - and where (head coach Greg Schiano) had them in his first term there, I think that heâs set on building it back.â
Rutgers offensive coordinator and QB coach Kirk Ciarrocca is also key in Flahertyâs recruitment. Ciarrocca helped Scarlett Knight quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis get drafted by Washington in the seventh round of this yearâs NFL draft, and Flaherty says he sees the blueprint.
âIf you look (Ciarrocca) up, heâs had great success with quarterback,â he said. âHe had a quarterback drafted in the seventh round. ... So I look at that, and thatâs something that interests me. And the other thing, youâre playing Big Ten football, youâre talking about playing the best football in the country.â
While Rutgers has a pitch that resounds with Flaherty and may offer a better situation, he says itâs not easy to ignore a team like FSU after growing up as a fan.
âItâs hard to say no to a school that you grew up watching,â he said. âIâve been a Florida State fan since I can remember. Both my parents graduated from there, weâre up there all the time even as fans ⊠just as an in-state school, itâs hard to not give them an ear.â

âHonestly, to play at a school like Florida State would be a dream come true,â he said. âBut it has to be, at the end of the day, the best decision and process for me. I wouldnât say itâs an end-all be-all to go to an in-state school and play there, but like I said itâs hard to turn your head away from them.â
The Pirates return a lot of senior talent after last yearâs playoff run, and have a crop of young players that have seen high Division I offers start to roll in. The stage is set for what could be Port Charlotteâs best chance to win a title in recent memory, and Flaherty knows it.
âEvery year weâve gotten better,â he said. âSophomore year was the best team in school history, junior year was the best team in school history, and I think personally this is going to be the best team in school history and that just adds fuel to the fire to go win it all.â
