Daniel Herrera, a heavyweight wrestler and Iowa State transfer, has committed to Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining. He previously redshirted and had a 29-15 record as a true freshman, finishing fifth at the Big 12 Championships.

The Iowa State transfer shared a post via Instagram to make it official. He will come to Piscataway with three years of eligibility remaining.
Herrera redshirted this year as the Cyclones got Yonger Batisda back in the lineup. As a true freshman, Herrera went 29-15 and finished fifth at the Big 12 Championships. He was a national qualifier, going 0-2 at NCAAs.
Herrera will replace Hunter Catka, who transferred to Virginia Tech this offseason. Catka lost in sudden victory in the blood round this year for the Scarlet Knights.
The heavyweight slot is set for years to come. Rutgers also holds a commit from Malvern Prep’s Lukas Zalota. He is one of the top heavyweights in the nation as a junior.
Herrera was ranked No. 35 overall in the Class of 2024 by MatScouts.
