Ryder Cup Europe has doubled the cost of a ticket to attend next year’s marquee event when the US will seek to regain the trophy at Adare Manor in County Limerick.
Organisers will charge fans €499 (£434) for a daily ticket when a batch are released to those living in the Republic of Ireland, where the centenary event is being held, on Friday. That is almost double the €260 face value spectators paid in Rome three years ago.
Practice-day covers will be a more resonably priced at €89 for adults and €20 for children for the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions, rising to €179 and €30 for Thursday, which includes the opening ceremony.
Despite the prices being at record levels for European-hosted Ryder Cup, fans paid $750 (£555) to watch Europe’s victory over the US at Bethpage in New York last year.
Richard Atkinson, the chief Ryder Cup officer, told BBC Sport: “We acknowledge it’s an increase from Rome. That was four years ago and a lot has happened in the world since then. We are lower than Bethpage. We’ve tried to make this as accessible as possible to a wide demographic of people. Our practice day tickets will be from €89 and juniors from €20.
“Our prices are proportionate to a global sporting event. This event has grown in stature and profile, it’s one of the biggest sporting events in the world. We’re confident in our pricing but we’ve made it accessible to everyone.”
Organisers are hoping to sweeten the news of the price hikes by revealing there will be an official campsite with entertainment for the first time and an enhanced experience for the attending fans when the Ryder Cup returns to Ireland for the first time since 2006, won by Europe at Straffan, County Kildare.
Atkinson added: “We have extensive plans in place to enhance the onsite experience for fans attending the 2027 Ryder Cup, including a record 20,000 grandstand seats and an increased number of giant screens.
“We also wanted to ensure that as wide a demographic as possible can be part of, and enjoy, this major global sporting event. Therefore, in addition to a range of different price points for fans, we are grateful to Musgrave, whose support means families from across the island of Ireland will have access to tickets as part of the SuperValu Community Day on the Tuesday of Ryder Cup week.”
