Sabres rule out 2 players for all of Round 2.
The Buffalo Sabres will be coming into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a significantly depleted roster.
On Sunday, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that the Sabres had already ruled out 2 of their players for the entire second round, this in spite of the fact that that the second round has yet to even begin for the Sabres.
Ruff announced that Sabres forward Sam Carrick, who has been out since late March, will continue to miss time as a result of an upper-body injury. Carrick suffered the injury during a fight against New York Islanders captain Anders Lee, and Carrick appeared to be favoring his arm after that encounter.
Unfortunately the news got worse from there with Ruff revealing that Noah Ostlund is also expected to miss the entire second round due to injury. Ostlund was injured during Game 5 of the Sabres opening round series against the Boston Bruins, a very tough break for the Sabres moving forward.
"I don't believe either will be available in this series yet," said Ruff on Sunday.
The Sabres of course do not know yet who they will face in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with that match up set to be determined later today when the the Montreal Canadiens take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of their first round Stanley Cup playoff series.
Either way the Sabres will have to adapt with a depleted roster, which no doubt makes the extra time they get to rest ahead of this next series extremely valuable.
