Sabrina Ionescu will miss the first two weeks of the WNBA season due to a left ankle injury. She sustained the injury during a preseason game against the Connecticut Sun and will be reevaluated in two weeks.
Oregon women's basketball legend and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu will miss the first two weeks of the season due to an injury, per several reports.
Ionescu rolled her left ankle after attempting a reverse layup in the Liberty's preseason finale against the Connecticut Sun on May 3 and limped off the floor to the locker room afterward. Further examination, including an MRI, showed Ionescu avoided "significant injury," but that the star would be reevaluated in two weeks, per the New York Post.
That means Ionescu will miss both of the Liberty's road games against the WNBA expansion Portland Fire at the Moda Center May 12 and 14, New York's only trips to Oregon this season.
Oregon fans will still likely get to see Satou Sabally play, as the former second overall pick signed with New York this offseason to join Ionescu, Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart and pursue a WNBA championship.
While the Liberty don't return to Portland after May 12 and 14, they will visit the Seattle Storm June 25 and the Golden State Valkyries in San Francisco June 28.
The WNBA season begins this Friday, May 8.
