Stick, 30, is someone the coaching staff knows well. Stick played for head coach Kellen Moore when he was the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator back in 2023, and while the team didn't win a game across four starts, Stick did well leading a shorthanded offense. He completed 65.3% of his passes and averaged 237.5 yards per game, throwing three touchdowns against a single interception. He also rushed for 36 yards per game with a score, but he fumbled five times and took a dozen sacks. At least he knows the playbook and has some experience running Moore's system. The Saints also "kicked the tires" on Stick last summer after waiving Jake Haener.
Teams like to carry four quarterbacks for training camp, so expect one of these guys to get an offer after the final whistle in Metairie. We'll see how things shake out later once Dekkers is released from his UFL contract, but we should also expect Moore to keep bringing in "his guys" to round out the depth chart at quarterback. The Saints passed on the opportunity to add a veteran backup last year, but maybe their phiosophy is changing.
