A National League Rookie of the Year poll chosen by a panel of MLB.com experts ranks Cincinnati Reds infielder Sal Stewart second behind New York Mets pitcher Nolan McLean among frontrunners for the award.
The St. Louis Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt, the Pittsburgh Pirates' Konnor Griffin and the Chicago Cubs' Moisés Ballesteros round out the top five.
Stewart entered the Reds' series opener May 12 against the Washington Nationals with a .245 batting average, 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and eight stolen bases. He's on pace for 39 homers and 31 SBs.
McLean is 1-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 0.904 WHIP in eight starts this season. He has struck out 57, walked 12 and allowed just three home runs in 45 ⅓ innings.
McLean has made 16 career MLB starts but none against the Reds. Cincinnati is scheduled to visit the Mets in New York May 25-27.
