The San Francisco 49ers and Trent Williams have finalized a two-year, $50 million extension, keeping him with the team through 2027. The deal includes a $22 million signing bonus and $37 million guaranteed.
The Arizona Cardinals will have to deal with one of the best left tackles in the NFL for potentially another couple of seasons. Avoiding a potential lengthy offseason contract dispute, the San Francisco 49ers and left tackle Trent Williams agreed to a two-year, $50 million extension that keeps him around through 2027.
Williams will turn 38 years old in July, but the 12-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro is still great.
He gets a $22 million signing bonus and $37 million guaranteed.
If he plays out both seasons, it means the Cardinals will have to deal with him protecting 49ers quarterbacks and creating holes in the run game at least four more times.
The $25 million per-year average on the extension is something to watch, as the Cardinals will be negotiating an extension with left tackle Paris Johnson. Johnson has said he wants to be a $40 million per-year man. With Williams' deal, we will see how that impacts future left tackle contracts.
