Sarah Wisniewski's walk-off hit-by-pitch secured a 4-3 victory for Atlantic Coast over Creekside in the FHSAA Region 1-7A softball playoffs. This marks her second game-winning play in a week.
For the second time in a week, Sarah Wisniewski came through with the seventh-inning walk-off against Creekside, this time a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch that lifted Atlantic Coast to the 4-3 win in the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-7A softball first round on May 7.
Atlantic Coast (19-7) trailed 3-2 entering the final frame when singles by Emma Cano and Josleen Mendoza and a Lily Maguire walk loaded the bases. Morgan Brown then hit a tying single, setting up Wisniewski's unconventional RBI to eliminate Creekside (20-7).
Mendoza and Wisniewski also had two hits each on the night.
On April 30, Atlantic Coast also trailed in the seventh, before Wisniewski's RBI single brought a 4-3 victory and the District 1-7A trophy.
The Stingrays next travel to top seed Lake Brantley (23-3), which got two home runs from Auriana Turner and one from Sabrina Boyer to eliminate Sandalwood 12-0. The Saints (15-11) only managed one hit off Lauren Compton.
Naomi Valcin's go-ahead double in the sixth inning opened the floodgates for Tocoi Creek (24-2), which scored five runs in the frame to win 6-1 over Ocala Forest (15-10). Siena Gallant got two hits and Hannah Jones hit the 20-win mark for the Toros, who will meet Navarre or Buchholz next.
Previously struggling at the plate through a four-game losing skid, Middleburg broke out in the state capital for a 17-3 rout of Tallahassee Lincoln (19-8). Ariany Reynoso and Rylee Patterson each got three RBI and Bayleigh Girgis collected three hits as the Broncos (13-15) scored seven runs each in the fifth and seventh innings. They next meet Milton or Tallahassee Chiles.
Sally Alberson went 3 for 4 with an inside-the-park home run and Summer Smith knocked in four RBI for Gulf Breeze (16-12), which eliminated Ponte Vedra 7-4. Nadia Campbell drove in three runs for the Sharks (17-9), whose late-inning rally fell short.
Harleigh Price did it all for Branford (19-8) with a three-hitter in the circle and a 4-for-4 day at the plate with a double and homer to lead the Buccaneers past Union County, 9-3. Mallory Blue also went 3 for 4 with three RBI. The Fightin' Tigers end at 14-12.
