Scholar Athlete: Niagara Wheatfieldâs Lindsay Tylec
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) â Softball isnât the only sport in Niagara Wheatfield senior student athlete Lindsay Tylecâs life.
âI fell in love with softball and everything about it,â Tylec said. âI slowly started playing softball more than volleyball. I leaned towards softball, and I really wanted to play it in college. I had a set goal that I wanted to play Division I softball for a while now, so that was my goal.â
Outside of her rigorous athletic schedule, the centerfielder ranks 10th in her class while balancing A.P. classes and volunteer hours.
âItâs difficult to manage, but I try to set a good schedule for myself to be able to practice seven days a week and get all my work done along with studying for everything,â Tylec said. âIt depends on the week, but sometimes Iâll have to stay up late in order to get everything done. I know it comes with all of this, so Iâm OK with it.â
Her brains are evident on the softball field as she helps Coach Kevin Schucker with game plans and strategy.
âHer and I actually have, you know, we talk game planning once in a while, we talk situations,â Schucker said. âWe even talked about, you know, putting in their lineup, because obviously sheâs the ideal three-hitter, but we moved her to leadoff two years ago, and for reasons that itâs paid off. We constantly communicate about those kinds of things and because I respect her input.â
Next fall, Lindsay plans to attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, to play Division I softball and study sports management.
âIâm excited to enter a new chapter in my life and see what it holds for me,â Tylec said.
