The Seattle Seahawks may be gearing up for the 2026 NFL draft, but that doesn't mean they can't attend to some other business as well. Namely, assigning new jersey numbers for their players currently on the roster. On Monday afternoon, the Seahawks did just that.
Here are the new jersey numbers for six players:
A few numbers immediately pop out. First and foremost, the beloved No. 24 back in rotation. This is a jersey number that is borderline sacred to the Seattle sporting community, as it was immortalized by Ken Griffey Jr. of the Mariners, and Seahawks earthmover Marshawn Lynch. There are those who believe this number should be retired. However, the Seahawks still deem it worthy to be in rotation, and it will be donned by Seattle's top free agent signing Rodney Thomas II.
Secondly, the No. 27 last worn by cornerback Riq Woolen for the last few years is back in rotation, this time on the offensive side of the ball. Seattle signed Emanuel Wilson from the Green Bay Packers, and now he will be making the switch to the No. 27 jersey.
The six players are Noah Igbinoghene (No. 17), Rodney Thomas II (No. 24), Emanuel Wilson (No. 27), Drake Thomas (No. 32), Velus Jones Jr. (No. 33), and Jalen Gaines (No. 47).
The No. 24 jersey is significant because it was worn by legendary players like Ken Griffey Jr. and Marshawn Lynch, making it a cherished number in Seattle's sports history.
The new jersey numbers are: Igbinoghene - No. 17, Thomas II - No. 24, Wilson - No. 27, Thomas - No. 32, Jones Jr. - No. 33, and Gaines - No. 47.

A pair of current Seahawks have also switched numbers. Starting linebacker Drake Thomas ditched No. 42 in favor of No. 32, which was last worn by Jerrick Reed II and Velus Jones Jr. This is the jersey number Thomas wore in college at NC State. He was able to make this switch because Jones Jr. took the vacant No. 33 jersey.
