The Seattle Seahawks made an interesting decision to send DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the offseason a year ago. On the surface, it doesn't seem like the wrong idea, as the Seahawks went on to win a Super Bowl a year later. Metcalf, however, is a very good player in his own right.
Seattle got ahead of the curve on Metcalf, as it would eventually have had to give him another contract. Instead of worrying about that, the Seahawks decided to cut ways, and allowed guys like Jaxon Smith-Njigba to get a bigger role and thrive in them.
And according to the latest from Bleacher Report, it's possible that the saga with Metcalf is only getting started this offseason. It's believed that he won't play on his current contract.
“After the Steelers acquired Pittman from the Indianapolis Colts, they signed him to an extension. Meanwhile, Metcalf is set to play out the rest of his deal, which runs through 2029, without guaranteed money.” Moe Moton of BR wrote.
“There’s almost no chance that Metcalf plays another down on his current contract. The Steelers will need to rework his deal. Perhaps those negotiations have already begun. If not, Pittsburgh may prefer a wide receiver on a rookie contract over a seven-year veteran who needs a new one coming off an inconsistent season and a recent suspension.”

If the Seahawks cut DK Metcalf, it could free up salary cap space and allow younger players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba to take on larger roles.

Metcalf has to be smart, as he doesn't want to get injured and miss out on the money he deserves. However, he might not get that money in Pittsburgh either. The Steelers have typically been reluctant to pay skill guys, or even to really do much with them, so that's something that will have to be factored in over the next few weeks.
