Jauan Jennings has signed a free agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings after leaving the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers revamped their wide receiver lineup, signing Mike Evans and drafting De’Zhaun Stribling.
One of the Seattle Seahawks biggest individual NFC West rivals has left the division. Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has signed a free agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings, Adam Schefter reported Thursday night.
The 49ers cleaned house in their wide receiver room this offseason. They signed future Hall of Famer Mike Evans instead of bringing back Jennings and also let Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore walk. They drafted De’Zhaun Stribling 33rd overall to pair with Evans and Ricky Pearsall as their only returning member.
Jennings inks a deal worth up to $13 million after remaining unsigned until after the draft. It seems he had to take less than he expected, as he was projected to make $16.7 million by OverTheCap.com before free agency. It’s clear the 49ers and other teams wanted to wait and see who they could draft before signing up for the price tag associated with a free agent wide receiver, much less one who hasn’t been a true number one option in their career and was only a seventh-round pick.
After losing 41-6 in the divisional round to the Seahawks, the 49ers are hoping a revamped wide receiver room of Pearsall, Evans, and Stribling can give them a better chance of getting back to an NFC Championship in 2026, and reprioritizing assets away from Jennings was a necessary part of theie operation.
