Seahawks select Minnesota DT Deven Eastern at pick No. 242

As we approach the conclusion of the 2026 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks finally addressed their defensive line. With the No. 242 pick in the draft, Seattle selected Minnesota defensive tackle Deven Eastern. The Seahawks were able to use this pick due to a trade with the New York Jets earlier on Saturday. Deven Eastern is the second of three third round selections the Seahawks have made/will make to conclude the draft.

Seattle's defensive line is stout, but they aren't getting younger with the likes of Leonard Williams and DeMarcus Lawrence. Finding some more depth was critical, in my opinion, and it appears they have a candidate in Eastern. Here is what his official draft profile has to say about him:

Three-year starter with a long wingspan but inconsistencies in his game and a lack of standout production. Eastern plays with loose upper-body movement that helps him slip blocks and find gaps. He uses his length effectively to disengage when he times it right. However, his high-cut frame and below-average pad level create persistent issues anchoring and maintaining gap integrity, especially against zone blocks. He ends up on the ground too often and hasn’t proven he can create consistent pressure as a rusher. Eastern’s size and length might be best utilized in a wider alignment as an odd-front end.

Eastern played all four years at Minnesota. During his career, he recorded 97 total tackles, 12 of which were for a loss, as well as 4.5 sacks, a pass defense and a forced fumble.
