The Los Angeles Rams know they're set at quarterback for at least one more year with Matthew Stafford returning for his 18th NFL season, but their situation behind him is murky at best. Jimmy Garoppolo is still a free agent and considering retirement, so he may not be an option. Stetson Bennett is signed for another year but he's been no more than the QB3 in his career.
Hours before the draft, Sean McVay joined ESPN Los Angeles and was asked about the Rams' outlook at quarterback behind Stafford. He reiterated that he wants to give Garoppolo his space and time to consider his options, while also acknowledging that the Rams have done their homework on the incoming class of quarterbacks.
He sees "a lot of guys that are going to be good players," and said that if someone fits their vision, they'll consider drafting him.
"Like anything else, we do our work on all these positions," he said. "Whether you're saying it's a (Fernando) Mendoza, it's a Ty Simpson, it's a (Garrett) Nussmeier, it's Carson Beck, there are a lot of guys that are going to be good players in this draft and if we feel like it fits for us, you consider it. But we are still hopeful and optimistic that you give Jimmy his time, but maybe he'll have a change of heart. But I think the best thing you can do, you never want to force somebody to do something – he's earned the right to be able to walk away on his terms."
Sean McVay stated that while Matthew Stafford is set to return, the Rams are evaluating potential quarterbacks to draft if they fit their vision.

Jimmy Garoppolo is a free agent considering retirement, and McVay emphasized the importance of giving him time to make his decision.

The Rams have been most frequently linked to Alabama's Ty Simpson. One report from Adam Schefter suggested the Rams were eyeing Simpson at No. 29 overall before they traded the pick to the Chiefs for Trent McDuffie. Another option is Nussmeier, who the Rams visited and worked out before the draft.
Those are the top two quarterbacks Los Angeles has been connected to, making them potential Day 2 options – assuming the Rams don't take Simpson at 13 or after trading down.
