Sean McVay avoided a direct answer regarding rookie Ty Simpson during an ESPN interview. He focused on the team rather than discussing Simpson's impact after a month of training.

It hasn’t even been a month yet, but Sean McVay is probably getting tired of the Ty Simpson questions already. McVay was on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” Thursday night to talk about the Los Angeles Rams’ schedule, and Peter Schrager took the opportunity to ask about the team’s top rookie.
“Now that we are about a month removed, the Ty Simpson pick, what has been the fallout? And also, what are you guys thinking now that you’re in the building and he’s there with you in the fold?”
For starters, not a great question from Schrager, who’s a good friend of McVay’s. And clearly, the Rams coach didn’t want to talk up the rookie after only a week of having him at the facility, particularly with Matthew Stafford still being the guy in L.A.
So McVay responded with a non-answer, talking around the question by discussing the team as a whole.
“He’s been – yeah, the rookies have been here for a week,” he said. “We’re focusing on our team. It’s been great to have our group in there, being able to get out on the field, do some stuff in the Phase 2, get into the meetings. I really love a lot of these guys, and I'm excited about building relationships with the new guys. You’ve got 23 rookies coming in, including the five draft picks and the undrafted guys. I think it’s always about coming together every single year and we have a lot of special players returning. Every year is a new year, but it’s been a lot of fun being able to get going on some football feeling like a coach again and I know we’ve all been champing at the bit to get going and we’ll do that over the next few weeks, have a break and then get ready for training camp.”
A perfect coachspeak answer to a leading question from McVay. He didn’t say anything specifically about Simpson, which is perfectly understandable considering he’s one of close to 90 players on the roster, and he’s only been with the team for less than a month.
Sean McVay provided a non-answer, discussing the team as a whole instead of addressing Ty Simpson's specific impact.
McVay likely wants to avoid overhyping the rookie, especially with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford still leading the team.

It’s also clear that McVay isn’t going to praise Simpson left and right with Stafford still leading the offense. He’s said he wanted to show respect to Stafford during his media sessions after the Simpson pick, knowing it’s still his team.
McVay had better get used to these questions about his rookie quarterback, though, because they probably won’t stop until the regular season begins.
