Seattle Mariners Starting Pitcher to Begin Rehab Assignment With Triple-A Club
SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are back home in the Pacific Northwest for a six-game homestand, beginning with the first of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at 6:40 p.m. PT on Thursday in Seattle.
The Mariners (8-12) have made it through the first 20 games of the season with a decent bill of health but haven't been immune from the injury bug.
Before the three-game set against the Rangers, M's general manager Justin Hollander provided an update on several of the team's key injuries, including starting pitcher Bryce Miller.
The right-handed hurler has been on the injured list the entire season after he was shut down in the spring due to a left oblique strain.
Miller will start working his way back to the major league roster and will begin a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Saturday. According to Hollander, Miller's rehab assignment will fluctuate between the Rainiers and High-A Everett AquaSox so the latter can get reacclimated to pitching in the PNW.
Hollander stated that he expects Miller to be on his assignment for the full 30 days, which would place his return in mid-to-late May.
Miller's rehab start will take place against the Sacramento River Cats at 6:05 p.m. PT at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. He'll pitch every six days.
Miller will be on a two-inning, 30-pitch limit and will progress in his pitch count as long as his rehab assignment goes smoothly.
The 27-year-old was with the team and spoke to the media ahead of their game against Texas.
"I watched every game from the couch," Miller said in a pregame interview Friday. "It's fun watching the guys going out there and compete but I'd rather do it from the dugout and feel like I'm a part of it, as well. Glad to be back and watching from the dugout tonight and maybe I can cheer them on a little bit and get us some wins."
Hollander and Miller both said the fourth-year major leaguer is feeling 100%. At this point, the focus is making sure Miller can ramp up and get through multiple outings feeling healthy and get back to a game form and routine.
Miller entered the spring completely healthy after having two stints on the injured list last season to right elbow inflammation. He finished 2025 with a 5.68 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched across 18 starts. He made one Cactus League start this spring before being shut down with his oblique injury.
Bryce Miller is beginning a rehab assignment as he recovers from an injury.

"Obviously it sucked," Miller said. "I felt great going into camp. Nobody ever wants to get hurt but at the end of the day, it's a part of the game. Just got to go out and do what you can to get better every day. It was like a roller coaster. There was multiple times throughout it where I thought I was past it and it just wouldn't recover quick enough. Definitely happy with being past that. Feel like I'm 100%, just got to build up."
-- Outfielder Victor Robles was placed on the 10-day IL on April 8 (retroactive to April 7) due to a right pectoral strain. He will remain with the team but is shut down from throwing for a "couple weeks," per Hollander.
-- Utility player Miles Mastrobuoni (10-day IL; right calf strain) is doing well in his rehab and the focus for him is building volume in his plate appearances. He's currently on a rehab assignment with Tacoma.
-- Right-handed reliever Carlos Vargas (60-day; right lat strain) started playing catch Thursday. He's still "a ways away," per Hollander but could begin a build-up to return toward the end of May.
-- Corner infielder Patrick Wisdom, who was selected from the Rainiers on April 14, was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday due to a left oblique strain. An MRI came back clean. Infielder/outfielder Rob Refsnyder was reinstated from the paternity list in a corresponding move.
